Each year thousands of women are infected with CMV for the first time during pregnancy. Over forty percent of these mothers will transmit virus to their babies. Of children with congenital infection, a quarter will have birth defects, including hearing and vision loss, learning handicaps and motor impairment. Some diseased children die before birth, and others in childhood. Clinical studies show that early intervention can ameliorate severe disabilities, and improve hearing, learning potential and quality of life.

Our goal is to develop partnerships among researchers, the medical community and health organizations to educate the public about CMV transmission, congenital disease and the need for universal screening of pregnant women and newborns. The Congenital CMV Foundation has been established to support this long-term effort. The Congenital CMV Foundation is managed by Heluna Health (former Public Health Foundation Enterprises, PHFE), a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that provided fiscal sponsorship, infrastructure support and consulting services to nonprofits, foundations and public health agencies. Nationwide, Heluna Health's services help to improve the health and well-being of communities.

All donations made to the Congenital CMV Foundation are tax-exempt and managed by Heluna Health, in accordance with all state and federal nonprofit regulations. Please note that you will be taken to Heluna Health's secure online donation feature, where you will be asked to register before proceeding to the donation page.
